Cade Horton has been performing lately like a pitcher with little left to prove with Triple-A Iowa. With the Major League staff now facing a sudden need, the Cubs will give their top pitching prospect his first test on the big league stage.

The Chicago Cubs are summoning Cade Horton to New York from Triple-A Iowa, a league source confirmed to The Athletic, lining up their top pitching prospect to potentially make his major-league debut this weekend against the Mets in a marquee matchup at Citi Field.

To make room for Horton on the 26-man active roster, lefthander Tom Cosgrove was optioned to Iowa. Cosgrove has thrown well in two separate stints with the Cubs covering four innings. He’s allowed three hits and a walk and one run for a 2.25 ERA, retiring 12 of the 16 hitters he’s faced.
