Around 200 Marines armed with rifles, riot control equipment, gas masks, roughly 20 hours of civil disturbance training and the ability to temporarily detain civilians arrived in the country's second-largest city after days of public anticipation.

The appeals court issued its pause just hours after Judge Charles Breyer wrote that Trump’s “actions were illegal." The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear the case on June 17.

The development comes a day after an appeals court temporarily blocked a judge’s order that directed President Trump to return control of the California National Guard.
