A soulful performance from a heavy metal legend took on a new meaning Tuesday following the death of Ozzy Osbourne. After the announcement that the Black Sabbath frontman and "Prince of Darkness" died at the age of 76,

Ozzy Osbourne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Rocket Arena in Cleveland. That made him one of 27 artists to be honored more than once (he entered with Black Sabbath during 2006) and was also the beginning of a triumphant final chapter that led to the Back to the Beginning farewell concert on July 5,

With tears in his makeup-shadowed eyes, Osbourne, the ailing and retiring frontman for Black Sabbath, raged against the twilight of the metal gods.

Osbourne presided over a bill that gave equal representation to almost every strain of metal that Black Sabbath begat, its diversity illustrating how the band didn’t just make a scene: They forged a subculture.

The late legend is survived by his first wife, Thelma Riley and their children, Jessica, Lewis and adopted son Eliot. With Sharon, he shares kids Aimee, Jack and Kelly - the latter of whom the heavy metal pioneer got to see get engaged to Slipknot's Sid Wilson at Black Sabbath's goodbye show.
