BU and Baylor are no strangers to a legal fight over the respective universities' logos. The collegiate combat over logo design started in 1987 when Baylor applied to register the interlocking logo with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, but BU opposed the application.

Despite requests that Boston University cease using the interlocking logo, BU has “significantly expanded its use,” Baylor said in the complaint.
