After a cloudburst in Dharali near Gangotri, massive joint rescue efforts by the Indian Army, NDRF, ITBP and SDRF are underway. Over 230 people have been rescued as operations continue under tough weather conditions.

In a large-scale rescue operation, 274 tourists stranded due to flash floods and landslides in Uttarakhand’s Gangotri region have been safely evacuated, even as 59 people remain missing. Among those rescued,

IMD scientist Rohit Thapliyal said Uttarkashi received only 27 mm of rainfall on Tuesday — far too little to account for a cloudburst or a flash flood of such magnitude. "Only detailed research will reveal the exact cause,
