Devers committed an error and several miscues in his third career game at first base as the Giants lost 2-1 to the New York Mets, one of which set the stage for New York’s Mark Vientos to hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the sixth. For Devers, nights like tonight are to be expected as he continues to learn the intricacies of a brand-new position.

Innings six through eight was a battle of strong performances out of the pen. On the Mets side, Huascar Brazobán pitched around two hits to throw a scoreless sixth. and Rico Garcia had an impressive seventh and eighth innings, striking out three in two perfect frames.
Hernandez and Gary Cohen called the Mets’ 8-1 victory at Oracle Park, though a third voice tried working their way into the broadcast. Viewers could hear a heckler throughout the game, and while their taunts were fairly clean, they still managed to irritate Hernandez.
At some point soon, Pete Alonso will hit his 253rd career homer, passing Darryl Strawberry for the most in Mets history while continuing to stake his claim as one of the premier offensive talents the franchise has employed.
