Weather maps issued by forecasters indicate when snow is expected to return to large swathes of the UK, as the cold snap is believed to continue throughout January

New data from WXCharts shows that just 10 cities across the UK are set for more snow in January, with wintery outbursts confined to the north and Scotland. Yorkshire will see snowfall on January 24, with cities such as Leeds, Wakefield, Ripon, Bradford, and York set to see around 2cm per hour from midday.

A three-day snow warning has been issued by the Met Office for much of Britain, with temperatures set to plunge for the first weekend of 2025. Around 5cm of snow is expected to fall widely across swathes of the Midlands, Wales and northern England, with as much as 20-30cm over high ground in Wales or the Pennines.

There is a yellow alert for snow and ice for northern Scotland until midnight on Thursday and another snow and ice warning for Northern Ireland until 11am on Thursday as sleet and snow showers are set to continue.
