Bipartisan committees in the Virginia House and Senate proposed ditching the governor’s plan to eliminate taxes on tips and cars in favor of broader cuts.

Virginia Democrats offered up their own proposal for tax cuts to residents in the commonwealth after Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) proposed relief that included phasing out the car tax. The Democratic proposals from both the state Senate and House of Delegates claim to provide $977.

Youngkin’s proposed amendments would give permanent cuts to lower- and middle-income residents during tax season.
