More than 18 million people are under winter weather alerts across the West and Midwest as storms are forecast to bring heavy snows and bitter winds.

New York City’s first accumulating snow is looking like a near certainty this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for New York City, Long Island and much of Central and South New Jersey for Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Central Ohio is likely to see 4-6 inches of snow on Dec. 13, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
