Porsche AG plans to unveil the electric version of its popular Cayenne luxury sport utility vehicle in the US at the end of this year.

Afterwards, Porsche will stick to its plan to sell the Macan purely as an electric SUV. But that leaves a gap in the brand’s line-up for a mid-sized SUV running combustion engines, and today Porsche CEO Oliver Blume announced a new model to fill that hole.

With EV sales growth cooling, Porsche is now planning to launch a new petrol- and hybrid-powered, SUV to complement the electric Macan.

Porsche will continue producing gas and hybrid cars alongside EVs well into the 2030s, and a new one arrives this year.

Porsche's Macan will remain an EV but a separate compact SUV with gas and hybrid powertrains will likely launch alongside it.
