Tennis elbow is almost always the result of injury from repeated action, such as swinging a tennis racquet or, in Stanton’s case, a baseball bat, said Dr. Guillem Gonzalez-Lomas, an orthopedic surgeon at New York University Langone Health.

Two-time AL MVP Aaron Judge and veteran first baseman Paul Goldschmidt each figure to earn extended DH reps if Stanton can’t go. However, Judge is also the starting right fielder on a Yankees team with limited reliable outfield depth.

On Sunday, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, per the Athletic's Chris Kirschner, that the slugger is battling something "akin to tennis elbow" in both arms. The manager didn't reveal if Stanton would be available for Opening Day on March 27.
