House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) spoke on the floor of the chamber for the longest time in U.S. history in protest of President Donald Trump ’s big bill, breaking a record previously held by then-Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

The bill cleared a key hurdle early this morning after the president and House Speaker Mike Johnson persuaded a group of Republican holdouts to change their votes.

President Trump gets his wish to sign his so-called Big Beautiful Bill by the Fourth of July as the House narrowly passes it, but not before House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries set the record for longest House speech.
