There was no March miracle for Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights saw their infinitesimal hopes of reaching the NCAA Tournament go up in smoke on Wednesday, when they fell to Southern Cal, 97-89, in a double-overtime loss in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights play in the Big Ten Tournament against the USC Trojans Wednesday. The game will be the second meeting this season between the two teams. The Scarlet Knights won the previous matchup 95-85.

Rutgers men's basketball's Big Ten Tournament seeding is now official following Sunday's win over Minnesota. The Scarlet Knights (15-16, 8-12) are primed for a rematch of their February 23 win over USC in a battle of the conference's 11-seed and 14-seed.

It was clear from the early weeks of the season that the Rutgers Scarlet Knights would not be able to reach the lofty expectations placed on the team during the preseason. It seems fitting that the season come to an end with one final gut punch.
