Update at 10:44 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025: Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports that Episode 38 of the ongoing episodic eruption inside Halemaʻumaʻu Crater in the summit caldera of Kīlauea volcano on the Big Island has ended.
The Meteorological Department said volcanic ash clouds cleared India by 10:30 pm on Tuesday. The eruption subsided by Wednesday. However, people and animals in nearby areas continue to suffer because of ash covering everything in the vicinity.
Episode 37 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption began at 2:30 p.m. HST on Nov. 25, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. Sustained lava fountains approximately 400 feet (120 meters) in height are currently erupting from the north vent. Fountain heights are increasing rapidly.

Flight operations were impacted on Tuesday, with at least seven international flight cancellations and nearly a dozen overseas services getting delayed due to the ash plumes from the volcanic eruption in Ethiopia.
The eruption’s sulfur dioxide cloud moved eastward, reaching India on November 25 and remaining detectable until December 1, according to data published by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) Wednesday. Dozens of flights were canceled the day after the eruption in regions affected or potentially affected by the ash cloud, mainly near Indian airspace.
