California's top insurance regulator on Friday said he would approve an emergency request by State Farm to raise premiums 22% on home insurance for about a million customers if the insurance giant could justify the hike at a public hearing.

California’s insurance commissioner said his approval was conditioned on State Farm justifying its need for the increase by bringing data to a public hearing on April 8.

California insurance regulators have “provisionally approved” State Farm’s request for a massive rate hike for homeowners following the devasting Los Angeles wildfires. On Friday, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara announced he will allow State Farm to raise homeowners’ rates by an average of 22%.

On Sunday at 1:01 a.m. a high wind watch was released by the NWS Las Vegas NV valid from Monday 5 a.m. until Tuesday 5 a.m. The watch is for Eastern Sierra Slopes of Inyo County, Owens Valley, White Mountains of Inyo County and Death Valley.

At 1:59 a.m. on Sunday, the NWS Blacksburg VA issued an updated wind advisory in effect until 2 p.m. The advisory is for Surry, Stokes, Wilkes and Yadkin counties.
