Chicago residents are cleaning up after strong storms with hard rains caused flash flooding Friday, especially on the South Side.

As of 12:30 p.m., heavy rain had already started to fall in some parts. A flash flood warning was in effect for DuPage and Cook County, the NWS said, with reports of "totally submerged viaducts and underpasses in the city of Chicago."

Friday’s heavy rain caused lots of flooding on the city’s Southwest Side and neighboring suburbs, and affected residents want answers.

For the remainder of today, we will be on the storm watch. There is a chance for severe storms until roughly 9pm, especially south of Chicago. If we have a severe storm, all threats are possible including torrential rain, tornadoes, and damaging wind.

Some families in the southwest suburbs were dealing with the aftermath of flash flooding after severe storms and heavy downpours on Friday.

Just 24 hours after heavy rain flooded several homes on Chicago’s Southwest Side, more rain on Saturday afternoon made it difficult for residents to dry out their belongings.

Torrential rains nearing 5 inches in just a few hours led to flash flooding across parts of Chicago on Friday afternoon, snarling both traffic on the ground and in the air.

A line of fast-moving storms prompted severe thunderstorm warnings in the Chicago area and ground stops at O'Hare and Midway airports. There were also reports of storm damage.
