The European Union has signed what India's prime minister has called "the mother of all deals" to boost trade with India. For Europe, the move seeks to hedge against its unpredictable ties to the U.S.

While the recently concluded India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) drew attention for its implications for automobiles, textiles .

The trade agreement is expected to be among the most comprehensive deals that India would sign, which could benefit India’s labour-intensive sectors, ranging from marine products, textiles, footwear and sports goods.
