Attacks on Saudi cities on the Red Sea by the Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen have added to pressure on global oil supplies.

The Iran-backed group said it has assured the Trump administration it won’t attack U.S. vessels in the Red Sea.

The Iran-backed militia in Yemen fired six ballistic missiles at cities in Saudi Arabia, a military spokesman said. There was no immediate comment from the Houthis.

By Mohammed Ghobari and Timour Azhari Sept 24 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia intercepted six ballistic missiles fired by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis on Thursday that the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said were aimed at Taif in western Saudi Arabia and the Yanbu area on the Red Sea.

The international assistance comes as the Houthi rebels make significant advances along the Red Sea coastline in a bid to tighten their grip on the Bab el-Mandeb, a critical maritime chokepoint.

The Houthis said the operation, which involved missiles and drones, came as a response to an attack in the Yemeni capital Sanaa.
