Hours after the Texas state Senate approved the new congressional map last week, a group of 13 Texas residents asked a court to block the map, alleging that the redrawn districts are racially discriminatory and violate voter protection laws. The group similarly filed a supplemental complaint in the original redistricting lawsuit from 2021.

A lawsuit was filed against Texas by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) over the new congressional map that recently passed through the state legislature, arguing that it discriminates against voters of color and violates the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The NAACP’s lawsuit joins a long-running federal case filed by the League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC, in 2021. That case is now targeting the state’s newly approved congressional maps.
