Greece loses around half its drinking water from leaky pipes and theft, government figures show - nearly twice the EU average of 23%.

Water leaks through cracks in an irrigation canal that feeds a plain of orange trees, while old underground pipes are said to lose more than half of the water pumped through them, according to local officials.
