Putin says he’s prepared for war with Europe, blames EU leaders of sabotaging peace talks
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said he is ready to go to war with Europe, accusing EU leaders of sabotaging peace talks with the US. Speaking on 2, Putin accused EU leaders of sabotaging President Donald Trump’s efforts to negotiate an end to the Ukraine war by floating peace terms “absolutely unacceptable” to Russia.
Witkoff, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, and Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, enjoyed a stroll through Moscow and lunch at an upscale restaurant Tuesday while the Russian president made them wait several hours for a meeting at the Kremlin about ending the war in Ukraine.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has met President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, days before Russia holds talks on a US push to end the war in Ukraine. Orban is seen as one of Putin's closest allies in Europe and he has consistently angered his Nato and EU allies by undermining solidarity against Russia.
“They don’t have a peace agenda, they’re on the side of the war,” Putin said on Tuesday after speaking at an investment forum and before meeting a U.S. delegation in the Kremlin. The delegation was led by envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The trip to Moscow is the second since last year for Orbán, who is widely considered Putin’s closest partner among all EU leaders. Hungary is one of only a few EU countries to continue importing large quantities of Russian fossil fuels, and Orbán has strongly opposed efforts by the bloc to wean its 27 member nations off Russian energy supplies.
