WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Australia will recognize a Palestinian state, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Monday, joining the leaders of France, Britain and Canada in signaling they would do so.

Speaking to reporters after a Cabinet meeting on Monday, Albanese said that Australia’s decision to recognise a Palestinian state will be formalised at the United Nations General Assembly in September.

After similar announcements by France, Britain and Canada, Australia said it would act at the United Nations General Assembly session next month.
