We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the radio booth as the ‘voice of the 49ers' whenever he is ready."

Papa did not specify the type of cancer he is battling in a statement released by the radio station but said he is fully focused on his treatment and looking forward to a full recovery. “Thanks to everyone for your prayers and good wishes as I begin this fight,” Papa said.

Greg Papa is the radio voice of the San Francisco 49ers on KNBR. He's also covered the Giants and Athletics, the Oakland Raiders and Golden State Warriors for decades.
