Trump's move to send the California National Guard to LA has sharply escalated tensions between the government and the state.

California leaders said yesterday that they would file a lawsuit against President Trump for deploying National Guard troops to Los Angeles as part of a crackdown on immigration. The lawsuit will argue that Trump’s order to the National Guard was illegal because he bypassed the governor of California,

President Trump said Monday that the city would have been “completely obliterated” if he had not deployed the National Guard.

President Donald Trump on Monday stirred the already contentious riots in Los Angeles when he advocated for the arrest of California Gov. Gavin Newsom. While addressing reporters, Trump was asked if border czar Tom Homan should follow through on Newsom’s dare to arrest the California governor.

The lawsuit will seek to set aside the president’s order calling up troops in response to protests that spread over the weekend.
