Deadly downpours hit Texas, United States with a death toll from the catastrophic floods reaching at least 96 people.

The fund was created to provide immediate and long-term relief for Texas communities impacted by devastating flooding in July.

The severity of the flash flooding that killed more than 130 people in Texas's Hill Country was difficult to predict, officials said Wednesday.

The deadly July 4 flash floods in Texas have prompted a lot of questions and soul-searching: about the failures of early-warning systems, the Trump administration’s cuts to the National Weather Service and disaster programs and the vulnerability of communities around the country to disasters worsened by climate change.

The death toll from the floods has reached at least 136, including 37 children, and some people remain missing. Tivy’s soccer coach, Reece Zunker, and his wife, Paula, a former teacher at the school, are among the victims, along with their two children, ages 3 and 7.

The flash floods that killed at least 135 people in Texas' Hill Country was the main topic during the opening of a special legislative session in the state on Monday.
