Rain lashed from above, North Atlantic winds pummeled from the side, and thousands of excited, umbrella-wielding shapes swirled amongst it all, yet the man at the eye of the storm remained entirely unflustered.

Through the first round of The Open 2025, there is a five-way tie for the lead at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland

The Open Championship prize purse for 2025 will be the same as the 2024's, a total of $17 million. The winner will claim a significant portion of the total, $3.1 million, while the runner-up will claim $ 1.7 million and the third place finisher will take home $1.1 million.

The PGA Tour's Open Championship begins on Thursday in Scotland, where the top players on tour will compete at the Royal Portrush Golf Club's Dunluce Course.

It is the first time in major championship history that five or more men, each playing under different flags, were tied for the lead.

But then, DeChambeau came up with nothing but air. His third shot was, well, a third stroke but not a third contact.

Matt Fitzpatrick is obviously on the younger side of that spectrum and while he has not won a major since his victory at the 2022 U.S. Open he has had moments of greatness in the aftermath. Already sitting at 2-under on the par-3 16th... Fitzpatrick dunked one in to tie what was the lead at the time.
