Rising out of tidal waters in the bay where Normandy and Brittany meet, it is crowned by a magnificent Gothic-style abbey dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The site’s religious history dates back to 708 AD, when Bishop Aubert of Avranches claimed that the Archangel Michael instructed him to build a sanctuary on the rocky island.
