On this day in 1984, Rick Allen, Def Leppard's drummer, was involved in a devastating car accident on the A57 outside Sheffield. Allen lost his left arm after crashing his Corvette Stingray. He was on his way to a New Year's Eve party when a Jaguar driver provoked him, leading Allen to lose control of his car.
