GANNET RELEASE! 🤍🌊 This adult Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) was found in a canal in Wolverhampton! It was believed he had been blown off course and crash landed in the canal during his spring migration. He was found by westmidlandbirdclub who managed to contain him and bring him straight to us to be checked over. Luckily he was found to have nothing wrong, just a long way from the coast! After a couple days rest and being given a BTO ring he was taken back to the coast to be released once a

These birds are migratory coastal birds and so he was a long way from where he was meant to be! It was thought he had been blown off course during the high winds. On Wednesday, we had the privilege of releasing this magnificent bird back where he belongs. This juvenile gannet came into the centre a week ago after becoming beached at Warkworth. With no injuries on admission, a huge appetite and a feisty attitude, he managed to hit 3kg during his stay. As you can see, there was no stopping him and we watched him disappear over the sea!
