For generations, fathers were taught their role was to protect, provide, and preside. To monitor the family, discipline the kids, keep things in order… often from a bit of a distance emotionally. And I think there’s compassion in understanding that history while also recognizing that so many fathers today want something different. Not just to watch family life happen around them, but to participate in it. To be emotionally connected, nurturing, present, and fully in relationship with their kids.
